I've lived in Arizona too long. The humidity today is beastly, so I just
checked what it is at, and it is only 26%! What a wimp I am. I remember
humidity in the 80% range in Texas when I was growing up, and I can't
imagine how high the humidy number in Okinawa was.

I love summer TV dramas. 12, or so, episodes is a perfect lenghth for a
season of consistently good stories. This year, I am really enjoying both *The
Glades* and *Covert Affairs*. *Rizzoli and Isles* looks like it has
potential though the first two episodes have been okay.

*Egizia* is a solid game.

*Macao* is good and might become a favorite if I get the chance to play it a
few more times in the coming months.

*Zombie Dice* is a nice, portable, push your luck dice game.

I just bought the Tinted Windows CD because Bun E. Carlos is the drummer.
It's decent, though I now own something which has a Hanson brother singing
on it.

The Diamondbacks need someone who understand "team" to be running the front
office and not someone who just collects talent.

Is anyone going to go see the re-released *Avatar* with the extra footage? I
don't know if I want to sit through it at the theater again for 8 minutes of
stuff that was cut out. It is a lot of time to sit still and I do have the
Blu Ray disc already.

I saw *The Sorcerer's Apprentice* this weekend and am going to see *
Inception* tonight. *The Sorcerer's Apprentice* was typical summer fluff.

Thoughts? Comments? Musings?

Can't argue that point. Of course, the whole "dry heat" argument didn't fly
for me when I was out there the one time. Felt just as hot, just not as
sticky.

I'm looking forward to the new seasons of Mad Men and Weeds though we'll
only catch Weeds once it hits DVD.

Is anyone going to go see the re-released *Avatar* with the extra footage?

This is the first I've heard of this. What's in the "extra footage" and why
wasn't it on the DVDs? Or is it?

I will be very shocked if you don't place Inception well above it then.

No time for all that. Sounds complicated.

I don't think it is, or at least all of it is. I haven't seen the extras on

You looking for an argument or confirmation?

I'm still pretty dealing with the TX heat just fine. Anything under
100 is just good summer weather. At least up until mid/late
September. Sometime in September the hear finally begins to wear on
my and I start yearning for the first real cool front to come through.
With luck it hits in early October and not late.

just so Mal-like.

If I was at all into baseball, my baseball pants would be dancing
around the house due to the Rangers current situation. But as much as
I tend to get into most sports, and even though I was baseball crazy
back in my youth, these days I can't watch the game. It just drains my

Finally got around to catching this on DVD a few weeks ago. I would
have liked to have seen it in 3D, but I still think the movie suffered
from too much filler. There's not a chance I'd watch it with 8 minutes
added in. Chop 30 off and I'd be willing to sit through it again.
There were parts I really enjoyed and the story itself was
interesting. But many scenes I found myself asking "How did that
advance the story?" Felt like a trip to Six Flags. A lot of walking
and waiting to get on the rides.

Inception has shown up on my radar. Mainly from all the chatter it's created.

In other news... I've been having a blast with Highborn and
Carcassonne on the iPhone.

More never heard of stuff. I've been rediscovering ELP lately.
My latest rediscovery was Great White, kinda. I'm back to trying to get my
very large collection of mostly 80s and 90s CDs on to my computer and iPhone
and I grabbed a Great White CD because I wanted to add "Once Bitten" to
listen to. Listening to the CD reminded me how much I like the hard rock
blues sound, so now I need to dig around and find my Cinderella CDs. They
looked goofy, but I always liked their music.

I have a hard time watching the Dbacks because their TV crew sucks. Mark
Grace may well be the worst commentator ever. Well, just behind John
Sterling and Hawk Harrelson...

It did drag at times. I really wanted to see it again in the theaters after
I saw it, but in 2D to see how it compared. I never could bring myself to
make the commitment to the time it would take.

I bought *Carcassonne* thinking it would play turn-based and push turn
notifications to the players, which it doesn't. I haven't fired it up yet,
but have heard good things about it and will likely play it at some point. I
bought the *Blokus* app last week because it was on sale for $0.99 and have
been enjoying it.

I would buy the *Keltis* app, but having to pay to unlock features sucks, so
I will not be buying it.

Nobody is worse than Tim McCarver. Whenever he opens his moth there's
a slight chance he'll say something related to the current game
situation. If he does say something related to the current game
situation it will miss something obvious that the viewers at home
could see. I have heard him go on and on offering his opinion about
the strategic implications of positioning the defense with two men on
AFTER one of the runners was out at second, leaving only one man on.

Harry Caray would occasionally act like this, but with Harry it was
cute because we all knew he was drunk. Besides, Harry really cared
about what he did and his enthusiasm for baseball was contagious. His
act was as much schtick as anything else. McCarver is pure buffoon
who appears completely unprepared, like he never bothers to research
the teams he's broadcasting. This is especially maddening during the
post season, when his is the only game being played, so he has no
excuse to be distracted by anything else going on in baseball.

It never ceases to amaze me that McCarver is still employed. He must
have compromising pictures of some of the Fox Sports executives
somewhere.

Hi Bobby,

I bought *Carcassonne* thinking it would play turn-based and push turn
notifications to the players, which it doesn't. I haven't fired it up yet,
but have heard good things about it and will likely play it at some point
I thought it did, but I didn't want to say anything till I had the
chance to verify which I finally got around to doing.

You can play just like you want and not only do you get a message
telling you it's your turn but instead of the default "beep" you get
the Carcassonne voice telling you! That was a bit of a surprise to
hear my pocket telling me it was my turn.

Might not be good in a meeting.

You can't play a game against random people that way is all. To do it
like that you need to invite people to a game via the in game system
which is then sent out through email. Works quite nice. If you (or
anyone else here) wants to give it a go let me know and I'll send out
some invites.

Highborn is on sale for free right now so I got it based solely on the
above statement. So if it's awful, you owe me...nothing. Man , do I
love my iTouch. I can't believe all the cool games I've gotten for
less than $3, especially when I think of all the $30+ games we've
gotten our son over the years for his GameBoy/DS.

I love the Carcassonne app. I'm also enjoying Blokus, High society,
Helsing's fire, Angry Birds, Jim & Frank Mysteries, Plants vs.
Zombies, Dungeon Solitaire, Fargoal, Ravensword and a couple of really
dumb games in the Farmville genre - We Rule and Godfinger. I have
loads of others, mostly picked up when they've gone on sale that I
haven't got around to trying. It's starting to remind me of my
bloated boardgame collection.

If you like TBS games at all I think you'll enjoy it. Movement is a
bit wonky but once you get it down the game plays nicely, slowly ramps
up in difficulty, and has some off the wall humor that I really like.
Supposedly multiplayer capable too but I haven't even attempted that
yet.
Post by Susan Rozmiarek
Man , do I love my iTouch.
That's how I started out, but then I felt like I was missing out
whenever I was out of WiFi range so I ended up taking the next step
and iPhoned it. I'm loving the 4 so far. Picked up a nice GPS app that
works better than any straight GPS unit I've personally seen so far.
Plus the geocaching app is sweet. It's one of those things I never
knew I needed and now can 't picture doing without.
Post by Susan Rozmiarek
I love the Carcassonne app.
Yeah, it's revitalized the game for me. To add to me previous post
about internet play. It will alert you when it's your turn, but if you
do both happen to be logged into the game it picks right up in real
time without any notifications. But you can just stop at any time and
go back to make a move when you can with notification. This is truly
the slickest implementation of any game I've seen yet. Plus... once
you've invited someone for the first time (via email) and they accept,
the next time you want to invite them it's all done via the app with
Push, and no e-mail is sent. This is the bar that all apps should
strive for. I think I paid 5 bucks for it and would drop another 5 for
it in a second. Played a game with Haven today and it beats bringing
out the game. We just sat there side by side on our iDevices.

One more non-game app plug - Skype. Cruising down the road chatting
to 4 different people at once is just plain cool. Makes keeping up
with friends and family on the hour drive home a breeze.

I couldn't get *Highborn* for free because we don't have Wifi at work and
